Are you looking for an alternative feminist blog?

Good news! This is one of them and there are many more. Like this one:

a radical feminist collective blog

Are you tired of the feminism lite type blogs? Where there seems to be a core ingroup who rally to condescend to and alienate any newbies who dare to go against the established tide of consensus? Do you wonder why men posting on these blogs seem to have some kind of sacred status or free pass to post whatever they like without being called on it? Do the blog owners nit pick about your spelling or grammar and tell you if you don’t like the way they treat you then you can go elsewhere? Do you feel bullied by the knowitall blog owners? Maybe it seems strange for women to be treated this way in so-called feminist spaces.

You are not crazy. It is strange and it’s unfeminist.

But you don’t have to put up with it. There are genuinely woman-centric blogs where women are validated and included and where rich and enlightening debate goes on every day of the year; debate that focuses on the liberation of all women from male tyranny and power.

Feminist blogs should not be about reproducing the hierarchies of patriarchy. They should be safe places for women to learn, grow and develop new ways of the feminist thinking so necessary to save the futures of women and girls. Feminist blogs should not be using their platforms to denigrate feminist writers and theorists. The women who have worked hard to activate and theorise in feminist ways should be acknowledged and celebrated, and above all remembered.

Liberal feminist blogs are more about liberalism, which is pro-patriarchy, than feminism. You may be looking for a radical perspective.

What are you waiting for? Start reading, sister, and all power to you!

  1. There is a reasonable collection of radfem blogs here:
    http://radfemreader.blogspot.com/
    All levels, including proto-radfems.

  2. Another collection here (where I just now found the link to your post)

    http://radfemcentral.blogspot.com/

  3. Thank you for this public service announcement, much needed!!!

  4. Thanks everyone. Keep adding links if you know of any. Proto radfem stuff will be especially helpful I think, thanks for thinking of it Dave.

I noticed some women becoming alienated on one of the larger funfem blogs followed by an influx of referrals to here after I posted a radish perspective. Women are looking for something more. It’s a good sign.

Addendum: Now I appear to have been banned from said blog. Apparently, using feminist theory to challenge the patriarchy-upholding practices of a supposedly pro- feminist blog – is simply “sniping”. Creepy mansplainers are, however, still totally welcome. Sell-outs.

As Jean Daley once wrote in the 1920s Women’s Clarion: “Women who economically depend on men, mould themselves to his desire”

Oh shit. In a rush to justify decisions made based on personal feelings, there now appears to be a very personal character assassination campaign underway. How ethical. However, I’m confident that my integrity and commitment to human rights issues are reflected in my writing here. Women with access to male power should be careful of how they wield that power to oppress other women.

  5. So here you are. Thanks Linda for your support yesterday. A couple of years ago I was at said blog and copped such a bollocking for some innocuous comment I had made that they actually made me cry. They gang up like bullies. I dunno why I decided to comment yesterday but mang I won’t be going back.

  6. That’s ok, Sandy. I can relate to what you’re saying. Gushing admiration is really the only response that is welcomed there, but I’ve always posted there because I believe in minority voices adding perspective in mainstream spaces. Tig tog deliberately left my posts in moderation for ages yesterday, while she herself was posting. It was no accident. It was intentional exclusion based on ideological differences. Then she falls over herself to paint me as a man hater in order to justify her bullying, and she knows I have a son.

But I did get a laugh out of the pre-emptive warning to all their imagined hordes of followers to not rush over here and defend them against the horrible man-hating lesbo. Fuckin hilarious.

    • Glad I made you laugh then. I haven’t been here for a while and assumed that men were still not welcome here. I apologise for this oversight.

  7. It’s as though they’re bursting for a fight. I have enough fight in my real life not to want that. When I visit a feminist blogsite I would just like to be able to say (provided it’s reasonable) what I want to say without such tedious pedantic vindictiveness. Retorts such as “smackdown” are unacceptable. A violent term the moderators at that place feel perfectly justified in wielding whilst censoring far less offensive retorts. Much love to you and your son. nI haven’t read the rules so ifn I’ve broken themI apologise

  8. Whoops. I could be a little pissed. Please disregard everything. Except the important bits. Sorry for wasting time. Never drink and type. tee hee

  9. It’s ok Sandy I cleaned it up a bit for you. But I agree, to use the term “smackdown” against a woman is to use the violence of patriarchy to silence us. Totally unacceptable on a pro-feminist blog.

Mindy, men still have a read only status here. But how does this have anything to do with you creating an impression that people will come running over here to defend Hoyden? Your comment makes no sense.

I’m not the first person to draw attention to the oppressive practices that go on at Hoyden; the male worshipping and the privileging of male voices; the lesbophobia; the sheer authoritarian assholery in the way threads are moderated according to the degree that tigtog’s ego is appeased; You have the hide to accuse Dudgeon of not being a “safe” space? You think Hoyden is safe for everyone?? You are systematically excluding radical voices over there. You either need to do a little critical reflection and accept some diversity over there, or just make it private for crying out loud.

  10. Not a safe space for some Hoyden commenters, not people in general. Yes our comments policy does mean that HaT is not a safe space for rad fems, but as you say they have here and other rad fem blog spaces which are FAAB only.

I apologise, I read Davesquirrel as male, my fail there and I’m sorry to you both, I should know better.

My comment at HaT was misguided, I won’t make that mistake again. I will leave the comment there because I don’t want to gaslight you here.

  11. Delurking to thank you Linda, for your blog and your online presence. There aren’t enough Australian radfems regularly blogging and commenting, I always enjoy reading your posts.

  12. Thank you so much, Milly, and welcome.

Mindy, are you saying my blog is not a safe space for “people in general”??

Hoyden is safer for MRAs than it is for women. What the hell is that about?

A radish perspective can only enhance discussions of women’s rights so if you wish to banish radicals, or any women who even just have a radical streak, then going by your own logic I say you are haters and phobes. To justify exclusion by referring to my views on transpolitics, when I have never posted those views on your blog, is despicable, and nothing but an attempt to make it appear to your other readers that you banned me because of that. I suspect that the post about Melinda Tankard Reist only appeared because of her views on trans, and that you only criticised Germaine Greer for the same reason. Similarly, Mary Daly was trashed on your blog AFTER HER DEATH for crying out loud. How much feminist theory are you people trying to erase over there? There is far more to radical theory than trans theory and by making it all about trans you are contributing to the erasure of women. For fucking shame.

People are allowed to speak their mind about transexceptionalism and gender identity disorder, without being labelled phobic and hateful by libfem “experts”

The racist and sexist men that you all collude with at Larvatus Prodeo never cop the phobe tag do they? Even challenging patriarchy does not earn one the tag of malephobic.

Radicals have questioned the trans movement based on politics and ideology while simultaneously accepting the humanity and human rights of trans folks. To write us off as haters is to reduce women’s thinking to a mere tantrum. It’s sexist. I happen to have a sister in law who is a transwoman, whom I have loved for twenty years, long before I was a radical feminist. Further to that, I am a respected critical social worker working in the welfare sector, for our most marginalised and disadvantaged peoples – all of em – women, children, men, transfolks – everyone. I am a loud and proud proponent of human rights and social justice, and I will not put up with your slander. You’ve all be drinking the kool aid of male hegemony for far too long it seems.

  13. I don’t think anyone linked to this site yet? I haven’t been reading it for very long.
