I was expecting some stupid shit to starting flying around the malestream media regarding Prime Minister Gillard but this is beyond belief. In an utter dog’s dinner of an article based on unsubstantiated statements, ancient or out-of-context quotes and figures and examples from a bizzare range of people from Pat Rafter to Germaine Greer, Bettina Arndt manages to insult women’s intelligence generally, heap some hate on slutty single mothers and their bastard children and reduce the Prime Minister to some kind of B-grade celebrity.
It’s fine for Gillard – a 48-year-old woman – to live with her bloke. Yet as a popular role model for women, her lifestyle choice may influence other women into making big mistakes about their lives.
Ferfucksake! Let’s just ignore the enormous historical significance of this recent development and forget all that nonsense about representation, participation and inclusion; let’s make it all about snagging a husband!
Then there’s this gem:
Women’s tiny reproductive window means they pay a high price for wasting precious breeding time in such uncertain relationships.
Stone the fucking crows, Bettina! Shut UP!
Thankfully, the comments indicate a similar reaction to mine.
And a little bit of misogyny from Germaine Greer today too, in an otherwise ok article.
Men rule because women let them. Male misogyny is real enough, and it has dreadful consequences, but female misogyny is what keeps women out of power.
Right Bettina Arndt aside, it annoys me the way she defines all women as being exactly the same and if we’d only quit bitching at each other all our troubles would be over. She’s been doing this for years but these types of absolutisms do not help women; they serve men.
